WINTON OPAL SHOW
9th July
This year’s Winton Opal Show was well attended mainly by Queenslanders as international and interstate buyers were unable to attend due to Coronavirus restrictions.
There appeared to be brisk buying and some miners nearly sold out of quality rough. Guest speakers were organised for the first time at this year’s show which was well received by its attendees.
Some of the speakers were from Qld Health and they encouraged miners and cutters to get their lungs tested for Silicosis as some miners who have been tested are proven to have the disease.
It was great to feel a positive vibe from the show and the show organisers will be holding another opal show on the 20th September where the street is closed and sellers can put their stock out on tables.
This will be at the same time with the Winton Outback Festival so accommodation will be hard to find, so book early. Congratulations to all involved for the tremendous effort by the QBOA.
ANY IDEAS??
Many gemstone organisations sponsor events to do some type of charity or promotion. Should we be considering some event or even setting up opal cutting rooms on the fields for young people? If any one has any ideas or thoughts please let us know.
AGM
I was hoping to hold this AGM meeting during the Gold Coast Opal Show but as it’s been cancelled we will hold it at a different location still on the Gold Coast. Zoom will be available and I recommend you try this if you can’t make it in person.
