InColor Magazine Special Australian Opal edition

By Member News

Hi  members Please download the Australian opal articles that will be printed in the ICA journal that will be published next week. You might like to print it out as there are some detailed articles in it.

In regards to Mintabie some people who have not paid there lease fees will be forced off there leasehold by police in mid  feb according to a letter sent to residents. They were originally told to leave at the end of june. While they may have breached there licence conditions it seems un Australian to evict eldery people in the middle of summer who are going to leave any way. We are not sure but some miners may be caught up in this if they havent renewed there licenses. Some tv stations have been notified about the situation.

Kind Regards

Classification

The article on hydrophane opal was discussed in regards to the LMHC definition and the response from Dr Simon Pecover  to it. The issue between porosity and permeability was discussed.

General business

Members doing the Tucson show are encouraged to use the attached add on their social media to let customers know their location. It was felt that next year we should consider dropping the Tucson show guide in favour of social media alone. The ICA journal is an impressive publication which is doing some articles  on opals so we should support companies who promote our industry . The ICA issues 4 publications per year and we should consider using this magazine  for our main advertising as it is sent all around the world and is well recognized as a leading publication in the gem trade.

The issuing of certificates was mentioned but it will be discussed at another meeting.

I hope all sellers in Tucson have a terrific show .

Meeting closed at 2pm

Kind Regards

Paul Sedawie
