HONG KONG SHOW
The recent gem show can best be described as slow with larger buyers lacking in attendance but some reasonable sales were achieved by members. It was discussed bysome members that we should be under the umbrella of the AUSTRALIAN OPAL ASSOCIATION.
If you intend to do the Hong kong show and you would like to join please email us. It has been mentioned to me by one organizer that Australians are the hardest to get to gether in a show. All other countries do every thing to be to gether as it has works ! When you consider countries that sell sapphires eg [Sri Lanka] want to be together and there product can be very similar to compare but our opals are so unique and different.

DECETIFUL PRACTISES
This is a email we received about the opal retailing practices in Australia from a Chinese in bound tourist.- It should be of concern to all of us in the industry and i have written to austrade who are meant to police the agents and bus drives with a points system.

I enrolled the Australian, new Zealand, and Cairns (called Aoxinkai) tour with the group organized by the Beijing Jetta International Travel agency in Qingdao On the 27th Nov 2015. I bought a number of opal jewelry totaling AUD 10894.9 On December 2,attaching credit card bills and small denomination in Australia Brisbane, a company called Q OPAL PALACE PTY LTD Opal (Opal) duty-free shops, Including a black opal ring valuing of 9900 AUD (6930 Australian dollars afte 30%) .Attaching details and handwriting proof, the other is doublet or triplet valuing nearly priced thousand AUD, In the meantime, the tour guide had repeatedly encouraged us to purchase opals. The tour guide told us:"Some customers who bought back to home found that the Opals price increased very quickly within a few years”, so I trust him with confidence and bought some expensive Opals (a chatting records attached about the tour guide Strongly and encourage us to buy ). At that time I asked the sales for certifications , but the salesman said: “the price of goods more than 10,000 Australian dollars have only identification certificate”, so the salesman wrote only a proof of purchase to me.then I consulted to guide (WeChat records ).he said:“the Opals I bought belong to the Australian jewelry brand toscow of high-end brand named artesian, so no third-party identification can be accepted”.
When I returned back to China, it is surprising that in August 2016 I would like to re- setting. I consulted an expert and she said that the true value of the purchase of Opal is only one-tenth value .then I contacted the travel agent to discuss the returns and compensation issues, but I was informed that the goods I purchased more than 30 days of return period. I think the shop and the travel agent are suspected of consumer goods price fraud.Hope you can help me to get money turn or give the other option.
Thanks a lot
